Overview

The Practice provides engineering services to an increasing number of major national housebuilding companies, commercial developers and housing associations. Staff are fully conversant in the design of housing and commercial developments in both urban and rural areas, with Local Authorities, County Authorities, Highways Agency, Railtrack, Dockland Light Railway, Environment Agency and Port of London Authority etc. We also have long established relationship with the NHBC.

RLT have successfully completed substantial engineering designs on projects within the Home Counties, Central and Greater London, East Anglia and Southern England.

The wide design experience of the Practice encompasses multiple high rise developments with underground vehicle parking facilities, major infrastructure construction and diversions, river sea defence works, industrial and commercial developments for specialist use, including multi-storey grain processing and storage, food storage, cold stores and warehouse distribution centres.

The team has been involved in numerous projects which are considered environmentally sensitive, where an engineering solution is required to be both functional and unobtrusive. They have been commended for their work by Architects and Clients alike.

As the availability of green field sites has rapidly diminished, it has become necessary to build on “brown field” sites previously considered to be uneconomic. The increase in the number of former industrial sites now considered for development requires an appreciation and understanding of potential contamination. It is essential that such sites are fully investigated to establish the nature and extent of the problems, the necessary precautions to be taken and the engineering solutions to overcome these problems.

The Directors of RLT have been involved in a significant number of developments on such sites and believe that their considerable experience of the various types of problematic sites and their close working relationship with leading specialist companies means that RLT are able to provide safe, economic solution to such problems.

RLT has a civil engineering department dealing with road and drainage design from estate roads to major urban roads. Much use is made of computer-aided design for both the initial design, utilising 3D ground modelling facilities, to the final drawings. The Directors and professionally qualified senior civil engineering staff have backgrounds in heavy civil engineering as well as residential development and are able to apply this knowledge, for example, to river frontages where anchorages, ties, sluices and pumping stations have to be considered. RLT also have experience of the construction of new and existing river walls, culverts, bridges and specialist ground engineering, such as cut off walls and bunds. This experience has been put to good use on many dockland regeneration projects.
